CHAMPIONS is here! For those of you who may be unfamiliar with CHAMPIONS, we have recently been honored as one fo the few organizations in Los Angeles allowed to provide after school programming for LAUSD thorugh Proposition 49. This bond measure was introduced in 2002 to increase funding for after school programs in order to enrich the lives of California children. We are honored to announce that CHAMPIOINS is coming to Holmes Middle School to provide free, daily after school care for a limited number of students. The program will begin Feb. 26th. If you are looking for an outstanding program that focuses on academic achievement, cultural enrichment, and organized sports, this is a great opportunity for you.
How does it work?
The program will run from 3:04 pm - 6:00 pm (1:34 - 6:00 pm on Tuesdays) and will provide academic help, a healthy snack, recreational activities, and enrichment classes. We will be offering a 20:1 student to teacher ratio and a variety of clubs, classes and clinics to support and enhance your child's daily learning. Note: This service is limited and priority will be given to students who will attend on a daily basis.
What activities are available?
In addition to a daily study hall (a service which is mandatory for every child), CHAMPIONS will also provide organized basketball, football, soccer, softball, dane and various enrichment activities. Please be advised that CHAMPIONS maintains a strict sign-in and sign-out procedure to ensure accountability of students at all times. Parents and students must comply with our safety measures in order to participate. No exceptions.
How do I enroll?
Enrollment is limited. In order for your child to participate, a paretn or guardian must fill out the registration form and return it to the Holmes Middle School front office. We encourage you to sign up immediately as we anticipate great interest in this program. Please note that priority for the limited spots in this program will be given to students who are currently staying after school with Youth Services and students in need of financial assistance. Once you are selected, CHAMPIONS will notify you and provide you with more information regarding our schedule, rules of conduct, incentive programs, field trips and more.
Forms were sent home with students and are available in the front office.
